If you want to request a delay in publication of your thesis, you must do this before you submit the final version of your thesis to cIRcle. Planning to submit chapters of your thesis for journal publication is not, by itself, grounds for delaying publication, unless you can show that the journal will not consider material that has been published in a thesis. It is strongly suggested that students review the Thesis Preparation Resources to ensure that their thesis meets formatting requirements before submission. On the day that the embargo expires, your thesis will be automatically released and will be available online. Ensure that multimedia files are in formats that are accepted by the UBC Library. Nothing should be included in the thesis that cannot be made open-access through cIRcle after a short-term embargo, if warranted and approved. When the College of Graduate Studies has reviewed and approved the thesis, the student will receive email notification.
If you wish an extension to the embargo period, it is your responsibility to contact the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies no later than two months before the release date. When submitting the thesis to cIRcle, students should: Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies Graduate School. The thesis describes something of considerable monetary potential which could, if the student were given an opportunity to develop it, benefit the student or the University. You will not receive a reminder, so please be sure to note the release date of your thesis.

On the registration page, enter your email address to register. Titles may contain diacritics accentsbut not symbols. Formatting must be consistent throughout the thesis, including units of measure, abbreviations, and the numbering scheme for tables, thesiis, footnotes, and citations.
In every case, the Preface must clearly describe the student’s contribution to the research and creation—including, where applicable, the student’s role in publications with several authors.
Under special circumstances, and with substantive rationale, the delay in publication may be extended to a normal maximum of two years. On the day that the embargo expires, your thesis will be automatically released and will be available online.

The thesis deals with a potentially dangerous product or process, or potential cure for a disease, for which more testing time is needed embrago public release of the information. The College of Graduate Studies must be informed about reasons for delays in publication of theses and dissertations.
Publications may also include films or other audio, visual, or graphic pieces shown or published in public venues, or other scholarly artifacts such as policy briefs, webpages or computer applications, curricula, etc.
If you do not notify the College of Graduate Studies, you will not have access to this collection. Use of copyrighted material must be supported by permission from the copyright holder, and this must be acknowledged in the Preface.
Students are also encouraged to proofread their thesis carefully before submitting the final version. If there are special characters for example, diacritics or symbols in your title or abstract, you can enter them in cIRcle by following the instructions below.
